Have you ever checked into a fabulous hotel and thought, “I’d love my home to have this feel!” What you’re experiencing in that moment is the feeling of having abundant space, calm, and being cared for. I believe that everyone deserves to have that feeling when they come home after a long day. The good news is that there are super-simple ways to achieve this 5-star feeling in your home.

Buy some fresh flowers

Pick up a bouquet of flowers at your local grocery store. You don’t need a huge budget or even a big bouquet. If you want to get crafty and creative, you can pick up two or three different types of flowers and combine them. Having fresh flowers in the kitchen and bedroom adds an element of freshness, brightness, and joy! In fact, multiple studies support the correlation between fresh flowers and reduced stress. Not bad for a $5 purchase during your weekly grocery run!

Set the table

Whenever I walk through an open house or see a home staged for photography, the formal dining room tables are set and it’s so inviting! Occasionally, I visit someone that does this on a daily basis, and it’s gorgeous! They use their best dishes, glassware, and linens to set a beautiful scene that they can enjoy every day. Most of us keep these things tucked away for a special occasion. Why can’t every day be the special occasion? You’re worth it.

What’s on the Wall?

I was born in the 70’s and grew up with a bathroom that had red velvet and gold metallic wallpaper, so I can’t believe I’m going to say this but wallpaper can make a gorgeous accent wall! Probably not with red velvet and gold metallic wallpaper, but there are many amazing wallpapers available. Using wallpaper as an accent wall is the same concept as using a different paint color on one wall, however the wallpaper allows more color, texture, and interest. For example, wood and brick wallpapers can look great and unless you are standing right in front of the wall, it looks convincing and brings warmth to the space. Geometric patterns, patterns with hints of metallics, botanical prints, and gorgeous florals are also options. These modern wallpapers are chic options for bland walls.

Declutter your bathroom

Even in homes that have plenty of bathroom storage, the countertops can easily become crowded if you’re not careful. But nothing says “5-star hotel” like a spacious countertop and inviting bathroom. Purge your cabinets and countertop and purchase storage solutions. Roll some towels to stack beside your bathtub and place some candles, along with just a few decorations that bring you joy. Make your bathroom feel more like a spa so first thing in the morning you are excited to get your day started instead of walking into a cluttered space that makes you feel overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious.

I hope these ideas trigger some thoughts about how you can make some minor modifications in your home that will create a more comfortable, relaxing retreat for you and your family every time you return home. You deserve to feel like a 5-star guest in your own home!
